HDR is finally rolling over to Office 2007 this month, and I was the test run for the Reno office IT team. I have used it a little bit at school, but I still have 2003 on my laptop at home. But, I've been using 2007 since Monday, and I have to say that I really like it. I especially love the changes that they made to Power Point (my favorite!).
Just a rare little shout-out to Microsoft : )

as i was waiting to get on the freeway this morning...
...I glanced in my rearview mirror and practically did a double-take as I saw a giant bush covered in purple flowers. "It's too early for that," I thought to myself. Oh wait--it is the last week of April. Friday is May 1st.
Lilacs make me happy. They definitely make my Top 5 list when it comes to flowers : )

Impressions: While we were in Edinburgh, Jess and I stopped into the Writer's Museum and saw this great exhibit on Robert Louis Stevenson. It made me want to go home and read everything that he's ever written. While I was home the other weekend, my brother let me borrow his copy of Treasure Island and I started reading it as soon as I (finally) finished The Amber Spyglass. I never thought that I would enjoy a pirate books, but so far I am really loving it. I love Stevenson's writing style--I am definitely having a hard time putting this one down (so much so that I left it lying on my mom's kitchen counter while I was home this past weekend)!

long lunch
Just had lunch with Andrew at Sϋp downtown. It was very good--I was totally bad and had the broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl : ) Next time I want to try the chicken tortilla soup. Yummm!

Impressions: I've always thought that I could be happy moving back to Plainwell and living the small town life. Reading this book has made me realize that I could never do that. I would be a classic Carol Kennicott. I would forever be trying to bring "culture" to the town and likely forever failing. I would be miserable being married to a man who was content to live out a life of complacency. Sinclair Lewis is a great writer--I always enjoy good local color literature, and this is definitely that. I find it amazing that Sinclair Lewis is a man because he has stepped inside the life of a trapped housewife in a way that it seems only experience would/should allow.
"We're like, real marketers!"
Why do I find it so strange to actually feel prepared to be in my real career?
Danny and I just had a great meeting with our Independent Study client! We are basically going to be marketing consultants for a local art/import shop. I have a feeling that Danny and I are going to be a great team for this project partially because we are both really excited about this client!
This is definitely going to be better than sitting in on 3 hours of lecture per week next semester...

I'm giving a presentation today on the state of the Nevada public education system and how businesses/students can get involved in making a difference in this area. Education is a real passion of mine, so I'm going to have fun with this one...

Oooohhh allergies...
All of the pretty trees are blooming, and my allergies are hitting me hard today! I'm going to have to run to the drugstore over lunch to grab something so that my sneezing and sniffling doesn't drive my cube mates crazy today!

Way behind schedule...
In Rachel land, Spring begins on March 1st. Maybe I'm getting older and more patient, or maybe I'm just getting older and busier, but I just got around to taking down the remainder of my winter decorations and I put up all of my little floral string lights and lanterns in the kitchen and outside tonight. I stayed in (when I had a date for the night!) for some much-needed down time and grooming (plus, all of my good clothes are wet and drying from doing laundry down at my parents' house today). Ahhh...the soft glow of little floral lanterns and string lights just make me happy : )

hanging flower baskets from Mom
Another year
I once read somewhere that you should write a letter to yourself every year on your Birthday. Well, it's been nearly a month since my Birthday now, but I think that I'll still sit down and do that this weekend. I hope that the 25-year-old version of me will be able to laugh when I read it.
